The first International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) was held under the auspices of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. From June 29 to July 3, 1987, mathematicians from around the world gathered in Paris, France, at the Cite des Sciences et de l'Industrie at La Villette.
