1) URGENT: Application to ICSU by ICIAM
ICIAM has applied for membership of ICSU on 10 August 2010.
To get accepted we need
- at least 9 votes by members of ICSU distributed as follows:
- at least 3 have to be from Unions
- at least 3 have to be from national members (usually
academies or science foundations)
Hence I urge you to
- motivate your national member to support our application.

2) URGENT: Abel Prize nominations
This item was treated at the ICIAM Board meeting under
11.3 Any other item. Here is the corresponding part of the
preliminary minutes:
ICIAM had been asked for nominations for the Abel prize,
the deadline for suggestions being 15th September. The Abel
committee feels that it would be helpful to have not just
one but say 4 possible names. It was agreed that if somebody
has an excellent suggestion, then they should communicate it
to the President, providing a CV and a description of the work
and the person of about 2 pages. Letters of support would also
be important. The prize can stress a FIELD also rather than a
person. The President requested that possible names of
candidates and people who could write the required citations
should be emailed to him. It was hoped that next year this
could be set up earlier so that the time was not so short.
Note that the president is out of e-mail contact from 28 August
to 7 September. Access is restricted from 8 - 10 September.
3) Proposal to UNESCO by IMU, ICMI and ICIAM
The proposal was given in appendix
11.1_IMU-UNESCO-project_2009_11_17.pdf
I reported in the Board Meeting that I had no contact concerning
this project proposal. Our delegate for developing countries,
Andreas Griewank, reported, appendix

that some activites are planned but our name has been dropped.
Following the board meeting in Delhi I attended the General
Assembly of IMU in Bangalore. I met Bill Barton who is an
IMU officer. He apologized to me for having dropped ICIAM from
the documents. You find the e-mail and three documents concerning
the program in the following documents which we shall make
available on our internal website:

4) Presentation of ICIAM at General Assembly of IMU
As mentioned in the Board meeting the president was given the
opportunity to present ICIAM briefly at the General Assembly of
IMU. The presentation is available on our internal website:

5) Presidents meeting
At the Board Meeting it was suggested that we should have a
meeting of the presidents of our member societies to be able
to explain much better what ICIAM does. In addition it would be
an excellent occasion to exchange freely our views and ideas from
member societies. It is planned to do this in connection with
the ICIAM 2011 congress, preferably before the congress. Details
will be communicated later.
6) Partial report on the board meeting
Here is a selection of decisions made at the board meeting:
- Fees for 2011 are increased according to each category by
USD 20, USD 10 and USD 5.
- New members of ICIAM are:
- SMF large associated member
- ROMAI small full member
- Jose A. Cuminato id elected as treasurer for 5 years
starting 01/10/2010
- Zhi-Ming Ma, President of CMS, is elected as Chair of SPC for
ICIAM 2015 in Beijing.
