1) URGENT: ICIAM Prizes announced
This is a reminder that tomorrow on Monday 20 September the ICIAM
Prize winners are announced on our website: /
The time of the release is: 10 am CEST (Swiss daylight saving time)
4 am EDT (USA), 1 am PDT (USA), 6pm EST (Sydney)
Please make a link on your society web page to this announcement.
You are also allowed to use the information to publish it in the
newsletter of your society.
At this point I would like to thank the Prize Committee members and
the members of the Subcommittees for their excellent work. In addition
I would like to thank Ross Moore for the lay out and ETH for the
distribution of the embargoed information to the different news
agencies.
2) URGENT: Application to ICSU by ICIAM, more action needed
Thanks to everybody for their support with this application.
In the mean time the following unions
IMU, IAU and IUTAM
have already sent their letter of support to ICSU. In total we
need at least 9 supporting letters.
Since my 16th letter of I have found out that
- the EC of ICSU is meeting in October 2010
- I should make sure that the supporting letters arrive at ICSU.
Hence motivate your national representative at ICSU to submit their
supporting letter as soon as possible to the following postal address

3) List of contacts for member societies
Some member societies have asked to have sent ICIAM information
not only to the president and the official representatives. The
reason is that they either have an official who does part of the
e-mail traffic of the president of the society or they want to have
back-up.
Hence we shall create an additional mailing list for these
additional contacts.
If you feel that your society needs such an additional contact
please send it to our secretary Alistair Fitt along with the
details and in particular with an time interval for which
the contact is valid. At the moment we restrict the number of such
contacts to at most two.
We shall review this mode of operation at the Board Meeting in
Vancouver.
4) Call for examples of prize certificates
Up to now the certificates of our ICIAM Prizes have been
created on an ad-hoc bases. The officers have decided that
we want to get to a stable procedure and a stable design.
To give some input to a professional designer it might be
good to have some existing examples. Many of our member
societies hand out prizes. Please send a digitized version
to our secretary so we can discuss the matter at our next officers
meeting early next year.
