Dear colleagues,
You have confirmed your presence in the presidents’ meeting that will take place in Valencia in the afternoon of July 14th. The meeting will start at 2 pm and will end around 5.45 pm. The meeting room will be the ‘Sala LUCRECIA BORI’ at the Palau de la Musica (entrance by the Turia gardens), the same building where will take place the Opening ceremony the next day. The welcome party for the congress will start at 6 pm and will take place also in the same building. So, it will be possible to join the welcome party right after the end of our meeting. See a map below, the building is in the middle of the gardens (in green color).
Please find below a possible list of topics for that meeting. I am not sure that we will manage to discuss all of them but let us try to do our best.

1) Shelf-presentation of the ICIAM officers and the presidents of the member societies present in the meeting.
2) Quick presentation of the activities of ICIAM (congresses, prizes, funding activities in developing countries, etc)
3) How can ICIAM contribute to create more dialog between its members? That should help in disseminating good practices, success stories, etc? The newsletter ICIAM Dianoia is enough or do we have to do more to share documents, experiences, ideas, projects, etc?
4) Would ICIAM run a huge propaganda machine about the importance of the applications of Mathematics for our societies? About the importance of
5) Should ICIAM participate in writing more white papers and policy documents?
6) How to strengthen the second I in ICIAM? How to reach industrial communities? Through our members only?
7) How do we get the younger generation involved in applied math societies and ICIAM?
8) How dohe open-access transition and National Research Data Infrastructure? [V. Mehrmann to draft a declaration/motion for open-access transition. Share with ISC members?]
9) How do we find a balance between educating the next generation and educating people for industry? E.g. ML/AI, data science, ...
10) ICIAM membership: 3 new members (Chile, South Africa and Colombia). What sho More statistics? More subjects related to AI, ML? More Africa and Latin America?
11) Anything else? What could ICIAM do that it is not doing at present?
