David Lannes is a CNRS senior researcher at the University of Bordeaux. He writes:
"My main research field is the analysis of nonlinear PDEs and I also have a strong interest in interdisciplinary research: after early works in nonlinear optics I now work in close collaboration with oceanographers and engineers on the modelling of waves in coastal regions (derivation of new wave models, development of an operational code for coastal engineers), and more recently on wave-structure interactions for applications to marine renewable energies. I am also involved in several initiatives which aim at taking into account in our research activity the considerable environmental issues we are facing. As an editor of this newsletter, I will be happy to put forward initiatives that go in this direction."
