Dear Presidents and Representatives of ICIAM member societies,
The COVID-19 pandemic is still not over, which affects our work and daily life. ICIAM's Spring officers meeting was held online on March 29th and March 31st, 2021. ICIAM is trying its best to keep business going on as usual, though some of our activities are slightly behind schedule.
We have formed the ICIAM Prize Committee and the sub-committees for our six prizes, namely the Collatz Prize, the Lagrange Prize, the Maxwell Prize, the Pioneer Prize, the Su Buchin Prize, and the Industry Prize. We have already sent out the call for nominations for prizes.
In this year, ICIAM will elect the next president. Previously the elections were made at the board meetings. However, due to the COVID-19, this year's board meeting is postponed to October 30th. To comply with the ICIAM Bylaws, which stipulate that the term of the President-Elect starts on October 1st, we will hold a secret online ballot in September to elect the new President. I have already sent the call for nominations of ICIAM President to presidents and representatives of our member societies.
An Olga Taussky-Todd Lecture will be given at the 2023 ICIAM Congress. The OTT lecture is an honor given to a woman who has made outstanding contributions in applied mathematics and /or scientific computation. We have formed the Olga Taussky-Todd Lecturer Committtee (OTT Committee), based on suggestions from the AWM (Association for Women for Mathematics) and the EWM (European Women in Mathematics). It is expected that the OTT Committee will soon call for nominations of the OTT lecturer.
The officers of ICIAM have discussed the possibility of changing ICIAM's membership in the International Science Council (ISC), from the current status of affliated member to full member status. Thanks to the work of ICIAM's ISC committee (chaired by our past-president Maria Esteban), ICIAM is getting more and more active and visible in ISC.
