Mathematicians from across the country and across the generations gathered to celebrate three huge milestones for the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), the 60th anniversary of the Institute, the 20th anniversary of the Early Career Mathematicians (ECM) and the 100th year of the birth of the Institute’s first president Professor Sir James Lighthill FRS.

From December 20 to 22, the 2024 International Symposium on Data Science (MIIS 2024) was held in Shenzhen. The conference adheres to the concept of a conference "based on mathematics, driven by big data, and guided by key applications" and brings together leading scientists, researchers, and engineers in the field of data science from around the world to focus on cutting-edge theories, advanced technologies, and various aspects of data science.

The European Mathematical Society fulfills its mission of promoting mathematics across Europe through the work of its Committees, each focusing on different aspects. Among these, the Committee for Mathematics Outreach and Engagement focuses on bringing mathematics closer to the public and fostering collaboration with other organizations.
Four years ago, this Committee launched PopMath, a platform to map and share mathematics outreach events across Europe. Its mission was simple but ambitious: to create an open, collaborative space where anyone could promote and discover math-focused activities, from public talks to conferences.
