Among the robust technical sessions at the ICIAM 2023 meeting, a two-part session on gender equality was held.  The session, entitled “Gender Equality in Mathematics: A Global Perspective,” featured speakers from across the globe presenting material on the state of gender equality in Mathematics in their countries, continents, and organizations that are addressing challenges related to supporting women in Mathematics.

This spring the Standing Committee on Gender Equality in Science (SCGES) launched a webinar series to raise awareness of gender equality issues in sciences.  The inaugural webinar, organized by Marie-Francoise Roy of the IMU and Carol Woodward of ICIAM, was held Feb. 16, 2022 and was on “Gender Equality in Mathematics.” The webinar featured a 45 presentation by Colette Guillopé on the results of the Gender Gap in Science project specific to Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.  After a discussion period for this presentation, the webinar included a panel session featuring Linda Rothschild and...

As noted in the July 2020 Dianoia Issue, the global project, “A Global Approach to the Gender Gap in Mathematical, Computing and Natural Sciences: How to Measure It, How to Reduce It”, supported by ICSU and then ISC from 2017 to 2019, gave rise to a new Standing Committee on Gender Equity in Science.  This committee, founded in June 2020 through a memorandum of understanding among 9 international unions, has as its goal the promotion of gender equity globally and across all sciences.  Member organizations include:
