The curtain of the 10th International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics

is going to be unveiled on August 21st, 2023, which is only slightly more than one month 

from now. It is expected that about 5000 (five thousand) participants will attend this Congress,

which makes it the biggest ICIAM congress in the history of ICIAM since its birth in 1987.

The opening ceremony of ICIAM-2023 will be held in the morning of July 21st, at which we 

will award the 6 ICIAM prizes. The 5-day long Congress will have a very rich scientific 

programme, including 27 invited lectures, 6 ICIAM prize...

The ICIAM 2023 congress is approaching. It will be held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, from August 20

to 25, 2023. According to the congress organizers, it is expected that the number of participants will reach about 5000, which will make ICIAM 2023 bigger than any previous ICIAM congresses. The number of submissions for mini-symposia has also reached a new record, above the previous Beijing and Valencia congresses.  That shows the interest of the community to attend the congress and participate in its scientific program.       As the new year 2023 begins, I would like to wish  you and your societies all the best for the next 12 months. Above all good health for you and your families and also success to your societies for all the events and activities they will organize.

The 2022 ICIAM Board meeting was held at the University of Strathclyde, in Glasgow, Scotland, on September 3rd 2022. Over 35 participants from around the world attended the meeting in person and online. The meeting was generously supported by one of our UK members, namely the IMA.

The ICIAM Secretary, Sven Leyffer, has been elected as the President of SIAM, which means ICIAM needed to elect a new secretary, one year earlier than usual. The 2022 ICIAM Board Meeting was held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow on Sept 3rd, 2022. Various important decisions were made at the board meeting, including the election of Suzanne Shontz as the new ICIAM secretary. A report on the board meeting appears in this issue of ICIAM Dianoia. Right before the board meeting, a Workshop on Applied and Industrial Mathematics was held on Sept 1-2, 2022.      Thanks to the help from IMA and Iain Duff, the preparations for the 2022 ICIAM Workshop and Board meeting  are  going smoothly. The Workshop on Applied and Industrial Mathematics will be held at the  University of Strathclyde in Glasgow Sept 1-2, 2022, before the board meeting which will be held on Sept 3rd, 2022. Though the Omicron variant of COVID-19 and its new sub-variations are still affecting the world, ICIAM's business is going on smoothly. Thanks to the hard work of the Japanese organizers, the preparation of the 2023 ICIAM Congress proceeds nicely as scheduled.      Today is the first day of a brand new year. Let me wish you and your family a very Happy New Year of 2022!

    2021 was a difficult year for us. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the board meeting of ICIAM was held online on October 30th. At that meeting, the Board made many important decisions, including the following: Officer-at-Large Wil Schilders was elected President-Elect, and Liliane Basso Barichello (nominated by SBMAC) was elected as an Officer-at-Large of ICIAM, and will serve a six-year term until 2027. Two societies...

The Olga Taussky-Todd Lecture is held every four years at the International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM). This honor is conferred on a woman who has made 'outstanding contributions in applied mathematics and/or scientific computation'. 

The lecture is named in tribute to the memory of Olga Taussky-Todd, whose scientific legacy is in both theoretical and applied mathematics, and whose work exemplifies the qualities to be recognized.
